Review - 'Super 8'
-Attention: The following review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk, or whatever-
Super 8
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 112 mins
Director: J.J. Abrams
Written by: J.J. Abrams
Synopsis(taken from imdb.com): After witnessing a mysterious train crash, a group of friends in the summer of 1979 begin noticing strange happenings going around in their small town, and begin to investigate into the creepy phenomenon.
STORY:
Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers! This review in particular is bound to be ripe with them. So if you don't want to spoil the fun before you've had a chance to drizzle it on your face, then you might want to just skip the text and move down to the final grade. Go ahead. Do it. I'll wait.
….
So? Satisfied? You may have found that less fulfilling than reading the full review, with all of its juicy adjectives and plump metaphors. And so after spoiling the final judgment of this spoiler-ridden spoil-fest, I trust you're ready to proceed. Shall we? Okay then.

Captain America: The First Avenger
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 124 mins
Director: Joe Johnston
Written by: Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely
Synopsis(taken from imdb.com): After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals.
STORY:
In our modern day and age, it would seem only two major types of movies are prevalent. Remakes and comic/superhero flicks. The wellspring of creativity (or perhaps willingness in studios and investors to take risks on original stories) appears to have run dry in Hollywood, placing an ever-growing emphasis on pleasing the nostalgia crowd. And so, in the spirit of superhero saturation, we are given Captain America: The First Avenger. To be quite honest, I'm not entirely sure how to feel about the story in this par

Review - 'Transformers: DotM'
-Attention: The following review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk, or whatever-
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 157 mins
Director: Michael Bay
Written by: Ehren Kruger
Synopsis(taken from imdb.com): The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.
STORY:
If there's one thing I've learned so far about Transformers movies, it's that the plot is usually a sequence of events that tie together various instances of massive robots whaling on each other. The actual "story", such as it is, is altogether quite predictable. Sure, the graphics are pretty cool, but it's nothing we haven't seen before. If you're like me, a movie needs much more depth than just a bunch of CGI featured in a simplistic, cookie-cutter plot (I'm looking at you, Avatar).
If there's much of anything to take away from this film, it's the further proof that Hollywood is an uncreative tu

Review - 'Source Code'
-Attention: The following review contains spoilers. Read at your own risk, or whatever-
SOURCE CODE
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 93 mins
Director: Duncan Jones
Written by: Ben Ripley
Synopsis(taken from imdb.com): An action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.
STORY:
Source code is all about story. But does it manage to pull off a good one? Let's find out.
The premise is this: Army Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up to find himself in what he presumes to be a simulation. His last memories are of piloting a helicopter back in Afghanistan, and he has no recollection of how he got to where he is. He is riding a train, and the woman seated across from him (Michelle Monaghan) appears to recognize him...only as someone else. Confused and bewildered, he heads to the bathroom only to find the face of another man staring back at him in the mirror. At t

'Sucker Punch' Review
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 110 mins
Director: Zack Snyder
Synopsis: A young girl is institutionalized by her abusive stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the mental facility.
STORY:
The story concept comes from Mr. Snyder himself, and he co-wrote it with Steve Shibuya. It is the story and execution thereof that will likely be the most dividing factor for viewers of this film. It attempts to craft a mysterious and complex tale, but falls a bit flat in some ways.
The setting is as such: a young girl attempts to protect herself and her younger sister from their abusive stepfather, only to end up accidentally killing her younger sister in the process. The stepfather has her committed to a mental institution, with plans made to lobotomize her. To avoid the pain of her circumstances, the character who comes to be dubbed as "Baby Doll" crafts an imaginary world in her mind, one which both remov

This is the end. This is the beginning. This is me standing at the apex of it all: clouds, sky, sea...all of it pouring past my sight into nothing.
The palette was black and white. It was so pristine. Your hands unknowingly plunged beneath the surface, smearing the paint, blurring the lines. And a once simple storyline erupted into chaos. Pure chaos.
I was claiming my portion. I was the cautious champion, blossoming from something unlikely into something certain. For all the things I didn't understand, there were more of which I was certain. All those certainties have melted into one: that the end of everything is seeking me out.
The ocean is on fire. The sun is draining away like water. And all I can do is watch.
Voices. So many voices. The political man pointing a finger. The preacher man warning the masses. The optimistic man grabs his share. And the oblivious man goes about his normal routine, not to be bothered.
Above it all, above the cacophony I hear the void. The hushed

No Consequence
No Consequence: An Introspection
I sit awake, unable to sleep. My thoughts have invariably turned to you. How I had to watch you walk away. And how there was nothing I could do to make you stay. Nothing I could say could change the fact that I would never be what you needed.
We were two young souls who collided on the road of life. And while you journey on, I've never quite recovered from the crash. It's so hard to focus on the road ahead when it seems so pointless, so empty. Nothing but empty double lanes for miles. And any other goals I might have had are only so much rubbish now, litter on a path with no direction signs or hints on where to go.
Living is so much easier when you know what you're doing. But now I have no idea. And I sit and watch as I deteriorate into something pathetic. I feel as if I've switched bodies with the Tin Man. Rust is a compounding problem. And my chest feels so much more hollow than it should. But there's no wizard to save me. And clicking my heels

Beautiful Ending
Are your eyes open? Is your heart awake?
A beautiful ending is upon us. It surrounds us. Daily it draws nearer. I think we are asleep.
We are the young. The bold, the brave, the hopeful. We are made rich not by what we have...but by what we have not yet.
The hordes are growing. Do you hear them? Their chanting drowns out the stillness of the past. Their anger, their hatred, intensifies. The mask is still on. We are not yet aware.
Wrong is right. Right is wrong. What once we fought for lays broken at our feet. Madmen cackle; their fires crackle. What wicked craft they weave, willing to spring it at a time of burden.
A lone voice cries against the shouting, "Have you no decency? Have you no shame?" Yet for all the logic of the sane, their intent remains the same.
And here we are, in a line, marching to the edge. The world in chaos crumbles 'neath our feet. For this ending we have sacrificed the most. To future plans, to hopes unfilfilled, we have said goodbye. What love we might have had
